Barbara Mahler and Company:There's No Place Like Home

Thursday- Sunday April 19-22 8:30 pm
Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church

New York, NY

An evening filled with pure physicality, spare architecture, and coarse human tenderness. The four works presented (including three premieres)are marked by tight lines of focus and movement arcing across space. HER BODY/UrbanScapes , with original sound score by Fernando Maneca, is a trio for Mahler, Becky Pearl, and Jessica Winograd which juxtaposes the needs for community and individuality experienced by three women as they dance alone and in partnership with one another. Barbara Mahler performs Raw Tenderness, a portrait of a woman caught by her own vulnerability and hesitation. Video work by Barbara Mahler and Kathy Kaufmann's lighting design round out the evening.Barbara Mahler continues to explore her unigue movement sensibiliy through themes of the city, the individual, heartache and simplicity. By trademark a solo artist, she brings us a new group piece deeply human yet full of unique movement connections made present in the relationships of her dancers. THREE WOMEN is a taut and articulate landscape of solos duos and trios, accompanied by video and original sound scores. On the interface of pure physicality, spare architecture and moments of raw tenderness, the dance is marked by taut lines of focus and movement arching across and through the space. Mahler, accompanied by Becky Pearl and Jessica Winograd present the paradox of communtiy and individuality. The three women embody the their individuality as if they were one, and a window into a journey dictated by small objects and everchanging environements.
