ONGOING CLASSES in Re- Education of the Body, Klein Technique as taught by Barbara Mahler
formerly of the Susan Klein and Barbara Mahler School of Dance and Movement Studies

The purpose of this class is to re-educate the dancer's body, interweaving theory and practice on a physical and organic level. From this comes the potential for students to discover a range of intelligence in their dancing, as well as to help them discover and develop their own choreographic vision. Initially inspired by the work of pioneer kinesiologist Dorothy Vislcoky, and then continuing for upwards of 20 years with Susan Klein, Barbara Mahler has learned to see, feel and teach each person/body individually to help their body function at its highest level of efficiency and function.

BARBARA MAHLER, a graduate of Hunter College under the tutelage of pioneer dance anatomist Dorothy Visclosky, and formerly of the Klein/Mahler School of Dance and Movement Studies, has taught daily classes for 30 years plus, educating and teaching (with, and inspired by, Susan Klein) a generation of dancers. She is s a widely respected dance teacher/performer and choreographer, a guest artist around the globe, very active in the development of post modern dance techniques. Essentially self-taught, she brings to her classes the perspective, understanding and experience of working on her own movement re-education.  Klein technique, first begun by Susan Klein in 1972, continues to grow and develop with the teachings of Susan Klein, Barbara Mahler, and the outreach of their students. The purpose of the work done in class is to re-educate one’s body, with an interweaving of theory and practice on a physical and organic level. The result is clarity and sureness of movement, and a new level of understanding the innate intelligence of one’s body.  The class is open to all levels, dancers and non-dancers alike. Barbara was a Movement Research artist in residence for the 2000-01 and 2006-08 seasons, is a faculty member of Movement Research, a movement consultant at Hunter College, NYC, and has been a guest artist in colleges and festivals across the US and Europe.  She is an MFA graduate from University Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and on the Artists Advisory Board at BAX. She also maintains a private practice in Zero Balancing, movement analysis and other healing modalities.
